The New Pornographers – Together

Jan 23
12:17 AM

We are so happy to announce plans for Together: the fifth full-length album from The New Pornographers, set to release May 4th in Canada on Last Gang.  The album was co-produced by the band and Phil Palazzolo.  It was recorded mostly in Vancouver, with additional sessions in Brooklyn, Woodstock and Catskill, New York.  A.C. Newman composed nine of the songs, and Dan Bejar three.  Carl and Dan are joined by the full crew - John Collins, Neko Case, Kurt Dahle, Kathryn Calder, Todd Fancey and Blaine Thurier.  Also lending support are Annie Clark (St.. Vincent), Zach Condon (Beirut), Will Sheff (Okkervil River) and the Dap-Kings Horns, among other talents.

More varied, deeper and broader than its predecessors, Together marks the next step in the journey for a truly incredible band.  We are proud to play a part in helping to share this with the world!  Check out the relaunched New Porno’s website for photos documenting the recording sessions – cats, dogs, barbecue lunches, cottage studios and the Hollywood Bowl – check it out!

Fan Death

Jan 19
8:51 AM

We are very excited to welcome Vancouver’s Fan Death to the Last Gang family!  Dandilion Wind Opaine and Marta Jaciubek-McKeever (aka Fan Death) have been making waves with their beuatifuly dark, theatric take on classic electronic pop.  Their cinematic videos for “Reunited”,  “Veronica’s Veil” and “Cannibal“ have amassed over 200,000 YouTube views – check them out.  Prince and Pee-Wee Herman in the same video???  They have attracted early support from the cool kids – NYLON, The Fader, Spin…. – and were highlighted by Perez as a “new favorite!”.  Dandilion and Marta are joining vampire Weekend next month for a (almost sold out) European tour.  They will follow with a North American tour in March supporting the UK”s electro-pop phenom Little Boots – dates begin March 2nd in New York and end on 6th street in Austin, TX at SXSW.

We are planning the release of their debut EP, titled “A Coin For The Well“, scheduled to drop February 23rd on LGR.  And that’s not all…. if the stars align as we all hope, we will be dropping their debut LP titled “Womb of Dreams” in May, 2010.

Who will carry the crown the next few miles…… Metric (2003), Death From Above 1979 (2004), Tiga (2005), Emily Haines (2006), MSTRKRFT (2007), Boys Noize (2008), Crystal Castles (2009)…… hmmm.

K-OS – I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman

Dec 21
10:32 AM

MTV just added K-OS’s new video for “I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman“.  Hot girls, fast cars, police chases, Saukrates, a VJ cameo and K-OS’s unmistakably cool hip-hop  rhymes – what more do you need to convert the masses!  We just released Kheaven’s opus Yes! in the US.  Although initially it’s only available digitally, we are putting the puzzle pieces together and will release the physical CD and vinyl February 23rd in the US.  With the help of friends Ren, Leigh and everyone at ADA and Shock, Europe and Australia will follow in early 2010.  Yes! will mark the first truly global release for Last Gang, thanks to newly minted distribution deals and  the enlistment of staff in the UK and Europe.  We are proud to walk the line with Kheaven and help to introduce such an incredible Canadian talent to music fans around the world.  2010 will be epic!

Check out the video here.

….And thanks to our friend Rick Campanelli, check out Natalie’s reaction………
